I know I'm not perfect
-and I don't live to be-
but before you start pointing fingers...
make sure you hands are clean!"
--Bob Marley
Think of this any time someone decides to judge you or tell you how to live your life. Don't let others tell you your life is boring, dull, sucks, whatever. It's none of their business. They have no idea what your life is really like and never will have.
And usually, those who go around worrying so much about what others are doing or not doing are very miserable, sad, lonely people...
Just look up "projecting" sometime online. You will see what I mean.

But, Ok, there's a lot of idiots about that probably do. I keep meeting lots of people who desperately try to tell me how to live my life, and my usual reply is not suitable to be written down, not even in the internet. I can write down the gist of it, though: why do they pretend to speak with any authority if they don't get a life themselves?!
Incidentally, I've actually got a few scars on my forehead, and on other parts of my head as well, and I'd do it all again (long story, and not one I'm going to tell now).
What (I think) Bob Marley basically said, is: "Stay true to yourself!"
He's right! It's the only way of living your life and still being able to look at yourself in the mirror.
Someone else had said something very similar, about two millennia ago: "... he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” - John 8,7
I guess, Bob had that one in mind.
Good one, Amy!
What's funny is said person hasn't exactly been a screaming success. So what's with the finger-pointing? I mean wow.
And artists put their art out there, so sure, I guess we do crave attention. But being an artist and putting your stuff out there expecting feedback...that's what we do, that's how we get noticed. So we all are attention cravers to some extent.
Anyhow, thanks Paul, for the feedback. I always love to hear your point of view on things.
As for craving attention, I guess that's true. I keep finding myself not only enjoying the attention I get - which is something these people really can't abide - and, to their outrage, I'm not even in the least ashamed of it.
The thing that sets us artists apart is that we get our regular shot of attention by producing something people might enjoy. At least I hope so. And we all (at least that's the way with any artist worth bothering with) want feedback to improve ourselves among other things.
The kind of other people we're talking about just want feedback to check whether they've already managed to piss us off to their satisfaction. And that's about it.
This difference between craving attention and craving attention may seem small, sometimes, but I think it's crucial.
Now where's the emoticon for
Also known as: "See the scars on my forehead? Been there, done that, admit I was a freaking idiot - and if you're going to do the same stupid thing, could you cut that rope tied around my ankle first, thank you? And be prepared for me to say 'I told you so' if you survive."
